Why Lord Shiva Picked Kashi as His Trident Tip

Legend holds that Varanasi does not rest upon the flat Earth, but is balanced gracefully upon the three tines of Lord Shiva’s divine Trishul (Trident).

Because of this cosmic elevation, Kashi remains unaffected during Pralaya (the ultimate cosmic dissolution). Puranas state that when the rest of the world dissolves in water, Kashi shines brightly as an eternal light house of consciousness.
